: How does Santa Claus get into houses without a fireplace?
In houses that don’t have a fireplace, what do parents tell children about how Santa Claus gets into the house to give presents? Kids all know that he comes down the chimney, but that only applies if you have a fireplace.

Happy Holidays
Answer by Gary CI used to worry about this, and leave our front door unlocked for Santa. However, I now know that one of Santa’s elves, Knuckles, is a very skilled lock-picker and he travels with Santa on Christmas Eve to open any doors Santa might need to go through.
Actually, Santa doesn’t use chimneys much any more, because so many of them have dampers or bird excluders or other obstructions that make it hard to get through the chimney and out the fireplace.

1) Leave the door open for Santa,
2) Hide the key to a locked door. Santa knows everything, so he will know where the key is hidden.Answer by Twilght Swan
when i was little in my old house we didnt have a fireplace, so my parents had this little old skeleton key that didnt really work for anything. hung it on the door with a little poem hanging by it from a ribbon, and it said:
dear santa,
on our roof a chimney you wont see,
but hung on our door,
is a very special key.
please use it to let yourself inside
and under the tree our presents you can hide.
it worked for me as a kid!! good luck, and happy holidays ๐

We have a chimney but I was never told he came down the chimney for a few reasons. First the safety issue of it (no one can go down a chimney safely, and a child may try to climb up or down it… there’s smoke catchers, it’s not a straight up shot.) Second the mess. If he came in through the chimney, that would leave soot, and that’s a pain in the neck.
No, we were told he came in through magic. He never uses chimneys anymore.
Add: Here’s an interesting link about Santa. Note that in some countries he comes and knocks on the door like a normal person on Christmas Eve. I think the whole chimney rumor got started with “A Visit From Saint Nicholas”.

Santa is a magical Spirit , and he does not need a door . If you have a chimney, then he will use it, but if you don’t, then he sneaks in.
