Elle: how do you tell the difference between parasites and worms and are they bad for gardening?
i want to start gardening and i have sheep in my backyard so i thought the soil in there den would be great because it has a lot of manure in it. when i started shoveling i saw what are either worms or parasites in the soil. how do i tell the difference between the two and should i still use it?

Worms are very good for your garden (because of the way they aerate the soil), in fact, some people farm them on purpose. Since sheep are vegetarian, their manure could be beneficial for your plants, but I wouldn’t recommend using it for (low growing) food crops, as there may be a risk of e-coli, etc. Can’t say I know what a sheep parasite looks like, but earthworms kind of all look the same, though varying in size and color. I recommend wiki-ing worms, and looking at pictures, then you’ll at least know whether that’s what you saw. You can add this manure/soil mixture to your compost as well, as long as there aren’t any weeds/weed seeds in it.
