How do you get through the puzzle in the third gym on Pokemon Yellow?

maranda: How do you get through the puzzle in the third gym on Pokemon Yellow?
After you beat the other trainers in the gym, there is a puzzle type thing with trash cans. You search through the trash cans to find switches to turn off the electric gates so you can get to the gym leader. How do you find which two cans hold the switches, because if you pick a wrong one it resets the first and they change each time?

u gotta go from the bottom up to get there and i dont know which 1s to pick because they are random

the only way to do it is to keep trying. there is no set answer.

HOWEVER

after you get one, the other one will ALWAYS be right next to it, up, down, left, or right.

so if you find the first switch in a corner can, it’s a 50% chance you’ll get it, since there are only two cans next to it

if the first switch is on a side, but not the corner, there’s a 33% chance you’ll get it, since there’s three cans next to it

if it’s not on the edges, there’s four cans around it, so it’s a 25% chance
