want.tobegood: How do you get good at soccer over the summer?
I am 14, and I really want to make the jv soccer team at my highschool this fall. Is there any way I can become good enough to make the team over the summer? I’ll be competing against girls who have been playing all their lives. I’ve never played soccer before, but I’m willing to do whatever it takes! Is it possible, and if so, how can I do it?

Practice. Get someone to practice with you so you can kick the ball around with them.Answer by Bardia K
This is really funny. I’m fourteen and just going into high school, and I want to get good at soccer too. I’ve never played for a team either. My dad and grandfather played professionally (my grandfather for the national team when he was young), and it seems that I don’t have half an ounce of their skill. I can’t even (fill in most basic soccer skill there is in here) correctly!
In about an hour my dad and I are going to the field and practicing, and when I come home from school sometimes (last year) I would take my ball and go practice my penalties, since I was by myself. Can you run? It will really help. I need to definitely increase my stamina. I’m going to do that by running a little more each day. Practice dribbling first and then *depending on your position*, practice your shooting, have a friend dribble and try to disposess them, or do a penalty shootout, switching positions after each one.
Good luck, and hope this helps!
hey, i am in the same situation as you! Over this year I’ve had this huge fascination with soccer ( it came out of nowhere ) and I really want to play in high school. I’m 14 year old girl also. If you know any drills to practice or if you find out anything over this summer, please e mail me at [email protected] Thank you so much.Answer by Steven Gerrard’s lover!
Practice it at first by yourself. Try to run always keeping the ball and than try some shoots. Then, prectice it with friends or brother/dad (usually with gus cuz they understand more) try driblings and learn to cross… This are the first steps to try 🙂Answer by Carlos D
The first thing you can do is make sure you are in good shape.Run. alot. Daily. The next thing I recommend is a book called Winning Soccer by Al Miller. SI used to sell it but you should be able to get it on Amazon. Can you parents afford a soccer camp? If not see if there are any pick up games on the weekends that you .join in. Tell them you are starting out and they should help. Watch some soccer games too. Learn some tactics that way. And when you do try out work hard hustle show alot of determination Ask alot of questions. Show the coach that you are willing to learn and to work. If you do not make the team perhaps there is a league you can join and get some experience for next year. Good luck.Answer by khamkeo t
fisrst i think go too as much practice as u can.even try too play with the older girls i’m sure they love to let you get in the practice games.I did that when i was younger played with the oler people you’ll learn alot.you have to run alot to get your indurance up.practice kickin the ball to yourself off a wall.practice trappin the ball.if your right foot try to use your left feet as much as possible so you’ll have an advantage and feel comfortable in the real game.but when your scrimmaging play them like it’s a real game…like i say try too scrimmage with the older people if u can ..just ask they’ll let you play..you will learn alot some of them are slow but they use fakes and passes tricks of the trade..Answer by tom r
Well practice since your a beginner try to practice dribbling the ball and learn how to long pass or how to short pass the ball you should always keep your mind focused in the game and nothing else.If you dont know how to kick the ball always use the inside of you foot to pass the ball if you want it to be a hard pass use the tie of the shoe it helps with me anyway.Never dribble the ball too long or the other team might get it from you.Dont look at the ball when you have it because you dont know where your going when you run with it.Before you pass the ball you have to know where or who your passing it to.You should always keep running dont stay still and never wait for the ball to come to you because thats a bad thing if the other team gets it.
Trust me i know what im talking about im a team captain of 3 varsity soccer team in my collage.
And good luck and 1# rule always have fun!!
If you need more help you can e mail me if you want.
Answer by hec157sorry its not going to happen over the summer. the only real thing you could improve on is conditioning and a little ball control. if you stick with it by your junior or senior year you should be ok. make sure you understand the rules too.
good luck and dont get discouraged.
