dark_phoenix: How do I stop my kitten from licking my eye?
I’m sure this sounds weird, but has anybody else had this problem? It usually happens when the kitten is feeling cuddly. She shows affection by licking my eye – the eyelid obviously, I don’t keep the eye open. I think it’s a suckling instict, like she’s looking for her mama’s nipple. I’ve had kittens try to suck on my earlobe before, but never the eye. And it’s like she has lazer focus; she is totally intent on that eye. I can’t tolerate her doing that, but I do want her to cuddle with me. I don’t want to push her away every time she wants affection. She’s about 4 months old now. Will this behavior go away as she gets older? Is there anything I can do to prevent it? It’s kind of driving me crazy. I get woken in the middle of the night with a cat tonguing my eyeball. Any suggestions???

Instead of pushing her away, just scoop her up and move her down to your lap or side or whatever. I have an ear sucker and an eye licker… I started wearing a sleep mask in bed and eventually, she stopped going for my eyes. The one still tries to stake a claim on my ears, and I can’t sleep in earmuffs.
You are right, “Wool Sucking” is normal and is an affectionate behavior.
Answer by CoopShe’ll probably grow out of it in a few months or so, but if you really want her to stop now, just keep her out of your room, or give her a good little smack next time and tell her no.
She’ll stop doing it eventually.
Answer by SamFirmly say no, and move her away from the eye. But, be sure to pet her immediately afterwards so she knows you’re not mad and that you want her to be affectionate. Since you are not hitting and then petting, it shouldn’t be confusing.Answer by beauty

Hitting or making threatening noises at your kitten will only teach her to be afraid of you. When she starts licking your eye, gently pick her up and hold her against your chest or in your lap, and pet her there. If you are consistent, she will eventually get the idea.Answer by Vanilla
Please what ever you do don’t ever hit your cat. she’s just grooming you. it’s a sign of love and affection. Move her away gently or offer her your hand instead.Answer by Hedicat
She is adjusting to you from her mom.
My kitten, at night only, wants to suck on my ear and neck while kneading me.
I move my head in another position covering my head with sheets. He now knows if he wants to do this he will have to wait until about 7AM. He knows to wait now.
So, my answer is, move her when she does this to another position, maybe your neck or cheek and then maybe the eye won’t be considered in time.
My kitten is 6 months now and is still wanting this at night. I think it’s because they were taken away from their mom to soon, as I have been told.
The eyelid thing may be because it reminds him of a suckling instinct.
