How do i “set the lens to telephoto position”?

Rachie_B: How do i “set the lens to telephoto position”?
I have recently bought the Sony a390 DSLR camera and am reading through the instruction manual.
Under the portrait guidance section is says “to blur the background more; set the lens to telephoto position”

What does this mean? and how do I do it?

well just turn your lens until it does not go any further, more zoom. 2 things will change the “depth of field” or what you mean by blurring the background. Aperture mainly but focal distant too.
