nicoled1980: How do I know when my daughter is potty trained enough to start wearing just panties when we go somewhere?
My daughter will be 3 in December. She has been doing really good at potty training. At home she wears just panties except for nap and bedtime. She only pottys in her diaper when she is really tired. How do I know when she is ready to start wearing just panties when we go somewhere? And how many extra outfits do I take with me?

It is kinda a Guess & Test method, your little one will more than likely have an accident or 2 but for the most part she should be fine at this point!!
my aunt used to have a little fold up potty with these disposable things like carrier bags with pads in the bottom to absorb.
that way my little cousin could wear big girl pants while out but there were never any accidents if she needed a wee 🙂

You already know her pattern. Take 2 outfits and put her in pull ups or a diaper before she starts to get tired.Answer by momof2boys
if she can tell you when she needs to go to the bathroom she’s ready for panties or if you take her out and she never pees in her pull up she is ready. Only take 1 outfit and instead of panties then you could put the pull up back on.Answer by Lis
When she asks to go to the potty if you help her or she starts going herself. If she has an accident, change her and keep on track. Take at least 1-3 extra clothes just in case and depending on the length of time away. I would work on no diapers during naps because it may confuse her if you are putting them on sometimes (which then she pees in them) and then doesnt. My daughter did great then rebelled against it and now is a pro. She used to wear only a pull up to bed and naps but we stopped that and she just knows to pee will wet herself and she just doesnt go.Answer by rosie babayyy! (BCA)
if she is doing fine now, she should do fine out as well. we did the same thing-pull ups for bed time, but when we went out we did the big boy underwear. just make sure to go potty before you leave, then tell her that you will be going in the car so she cant go in her pants, and then take her as soon as you get to your destination, and just remind her to keep letting you know when she has to go.
we kept our son in his underwear last night for bed because he did not want to wear his pull up, and guess what?! no accidents! he woke up once at about 5 am to use the potty and then went back to bed-i was so proud!
Answer by tessajanellI just take my son out and if he has an accident I bring a set of clothes and a pull-up. He tends to use the pull up if he has one on so I ask if he has to go more often when we are out and he has ruined his first outfit. Although I think that the first time she has an accident in public will change things for her. She is old enough to get what’s going on if someone points it out and be embarrassed about it.Answer by cugini2006
I am potty training my 18 month old daughter. And what I have found is that when she has a pull up on, she goes in it. Because the wetness doesn’t bother them , because it is absorbed in the pull up. So I put her in panties, and I have bought Gerber plastic panties, to put over top, which will normally keep the urine in, unless she’s sitting, then it goes out of the sides. Just make sure you ask her often if she needs to go. And I actually still carry around a bag. But it’s a book bag, that I keep a little potty seat , 3 pairs of pants, and 4 pairs of panties, and 1 pair of plastic panties, and 3 pairs of socks. Because if she does have a accident, then her socks will get wet also. Something else you might want to concider is buying a cloth that will go on her car seat, so if she does have an accident she doesn’t have to sit in a wet seat till you get home. And I also have a portable potty with me in the back of my Jeep. I know it seems like alot of potties…lol but I would rather have all that then diapers!
Good luck!Answer by tabbo17
Girl I am having the same problem. She will pee in the potty all day and wants to poop in a pull up. When she started peeing all the time the the potty was when I put the panties on her and now she wears them all day and at night when we go to bed. I make sure that she pees before we go to bed. Nothing to drink about 30 mins to an hour before bedtime either. When she can wear them around the house and not pee and wants to pee in the potty… Good luck (3 the 14th of this month)Answer by momoftwo
I actually picked a day and took away all diapers. So that meant that I had to be ready for anything. We have had one accident (one of the frozen food aisles at the supermarket) I brought the old burp clothes and made her wipe the mess up, then she and I walked to the restroom where I changed her.
As soon as we get someplace I ask her if she has to go potty. We talk about how everywhere we go there is always a potty she can use. So far so good. She actually did better when we were out than when we were at home.
Answer by CatI didn’t know if my daughter was ready but she has been in panties for 1 week now, we have been out a few times and I just made sure that I took her to use the potty regularly even if she didn’t need to actually go, usually every 2 hours. My mum took her out today, she did the same thing and my daughter stayed dry. I usually take two changes and not plan to be out for extended periods of time. We have a portable potty but haven’t needed to use it as most larger shops cater well and have tots toilets.Answer by Stormy S
When a child no longer has “accidents” she is potty trained. I didn’t put my chldren in panties until they were no longer having accidents. Saved them the embarassment of wetting their clothing and me having to wash it.
