matt94au: How do I join a casino table when its busy?
I recently went to a casino, and found most tables with low limits had every seat full and crowds standing around them. I am new to tables, so can anyone tell me what the go is here? Do you wait to be called in or are you suppossed to push in? And why are so many people so eager to lose their money? Ha just thought id throw that one in!

Most casinos only have one or two low limit tables, so it’s sometimes hard to get a seat; but the rule is: First come first served. Most of the time the people who are standing around are just spectators, but you could just ask if anyone’s waiting for a seat. If so, you’ll have to wait in line at the table until enough seats become open. If not, you’ll be first up when a seat comes open. Just make sure you wait AT the table, or you’ll lose your spot in line.
Why are people so eager to lose their money? P.T. Barnum had the answer: There’s a sucker born every minute.
Answer by Vegas MattIf you’re talking about poker, they usually have a waiting list you can put your name on.
If you’re talking about table games like blackjack, craps, roulette, etc, you just have to stand around and wait. When someone leaves, you sit down. If there are already a bunch of people waiting around to get on the table, you might as well find something else to do. You can’t push people off the table, and you can’t throw your money down if there’s not a spot for you.
Answer by JackAceIt depends on where you are and what type of game you want to play. I assume that you are in the US and you want to play a regular table game as opposed to poker.
For the most part, you just need to squat for a seat. Stand next to the player with the least number of bets in front of them. If they are betting $ 100 a hand and they only have $ 200, they will be more likely to leave than a guy betting $ 5 with $ 150 in front of him.
In Europe and in non-Vegas/Atlantic City casinos, you can sometimes bet behind people. This means you are just adding to their bet, but the person seated controls the hand. If you see someone who you think is good or lucky at blackjack, you can pop $ 5 behind his bet and if he wins, then you win. Be careful, because he may be a complete donkey who hits 18’s or splits 10’s!
If you want to play poker, you usually have to put your name on a list. They’ll call your name on a PA system when it’s your turn to play. Make sure you stay within earshot!
