Brandi: How do I get my kitten to stop nursing from weird things?
My kitten is about 4 months old, he starting nursing (sucking) on things as soon as we brought him home. It started with a blanket, then stuffed animals, the kitten bed, and now he has started doing it to our dog! He sucks on my dogs lip and my dog and him are buddies so he never does anything to make the kitten stop. I don’t understand why he is doing this? We have 2 other older cats and he leaves them alone.

Kneading and related are very normal cat activities. Your dog will stop it if she/he doesn’t like it. It seems the dog understand your kitty’s needs. It’s really no biggie at all.

LoL, he wasn’t fully weaned yet was he? Just think of it as a baby sucking on a pacifier. Ignore it, it’s cute and will go away.

it still is a baby try introducing it more to the bowl i guess but well they are that age they do that.

Ummmmmm, If your cat knows how to eat adult cat food or w/e it eats, i won’t recommend this. I would feed it milk from a bottle for a while. Once it is like 2 months after, it should be done/over (sucking) lol. Then feed it some normal food. That’s my opinion, not sure if it’s reliable xD GoodLuck!!

Nursing in a happy thing for a kitten, so simulating it makes him happy too. Let him enjoy it!

That’s funny.

If the kitten was not fully weaned then it wil do this. But you say it is 4 months old?

Some cats will nurse from their mom till they are a year old (if the mother will allow them) so this is possible.

It is a comforting thing for kittens because it makes them think of their mom. And it calms them down because that’s just what they are used to.

Like someone said, A baby will suck on a pacifier after the mom is finished nursing it. It is comforting.

So this is why your cat does this.

If you want to stop him then just when ever he goes to suck on something then flick him on the mouth (Not hard!!) And tell him ”no!”. Then He will stop after a while.

my cats are both about a year and a half old both of them still kneed. but not suck. kneading makes them happy. as a matter of fact my other cat only purrs when hes kneading. the sucking will stop. once he realizes he aint getting anything. then he will bite and want to play alot
