: How can internet connection be accessed out on a boat in the middle of the sea?
I’m planning a cruise for 2 weeks and can’t live without internet access. How do I go about making sure I have internet access? In fact, how do fishermen on lare boats at sea, use the internet or make cell phone calls? Is it possible with today’s technolgy?

Yes, you can. More likely then not, the cruise ship, if that is what you are traveling on, will have Internet. Buy if not, then you have to buy hotspot thing, I forget what it is called. Look it up on google, you’ll find it.
Satellite!
Cruise ships have connections for both internet access and cell phones.
HOWEVER, internet services are VERY expensive and VERY slow. You might be better off finding an internet cafe in the ports you visit. Your cabin attendant and/or dining room waiters probably can tell you the best places to go.
And cellular at sea costs $ 2.49/minute or more (doesn’t matter if you have an unlimited plan on your phone, you will be charged extra).Answer by luludoodie
You buy an “access number” to the ships satellite system for x minutes.
You have to log in every time which is SLOW (so you spend more time doing it…..) and are charged by the time used. You can easily run up your own National Debt after a few days!
If you remember dial-up access, that is about the speed of cruise line connections!
Whether you use your own computer (not all ships have internal WIFI) or their terminals all the above apply! I know – I’ve done both!
Use Internet cafes at places you visit instead unless it is absolutely essential you have comunications NOW! The crew all know the cheapest, just follow them when they go ashore!
Answer by Anja HFishermen don’t necessarily have internet access.
Cruise ships do.
Via satellite
Will cost you an arm and a leg – and some more.
If you can’t live without internet access, what would you do, if there is no power? Jump off a brigde?
