BarbarianKing: How can I tell if my cat is narcoleptic?
My cat wants to sleep all the time. It will be pounching one minute and then lay down and go to sleep a few minutes later. All it wants to do is sleep. Sometimes while awake the cat will glare nervously at the ceiling fan. The cat will run from the room and hide if we turn the ceiling fan on, but will come back after it bas been running for a while. It will then leave if we shut it off and hide. The cat doesn’t like other people and will stay in hiding if we have company until about a hour after everyone leaves. I often find the cat sleeping in wierd places (bottom of the stairs, infront of the door, on a window seat, under the bed next to the heater) and in wierd positions (on its side like a dog, on its back with all four paws in the air, etc). Sometimes the cat will sit and stare at the wall. Is my cat just being a cat or does it have some kind of mental disorder?

Go to youtube and search for “narcoleptic dog.” I just saw this video the other day. It shows what narcolepsy, extremely rare in a dog, is like. I would assume that your cat would show similiar symptoms.
cats can sleep for 20+ hours, and lhey are known for sleeping in odd places and even positions, so as far as the sleeping goes, your cat is normal. I had a cat who was terrified of ceilingfans, and although 2 of mine are very friendly, my youngest hides in my kitchen cabinets when ever company is over. I doubt your cat is narcoleptic. First, the hiding and stuff isn’t connected to narcolepsy. Second, unless your cat is literally falling over asleep every few seconds, even while eating and walking, then it isn’t narcolepsy. Cats like to sleep, they will look like they have died, then get up and run around the room, and go back to sleep. They just do that.Answer by legomanyacts
These activities are normal…
My female cat is scared of guests too, this is extremely common
My female cat is also scared of the air fan in our bathrooms… I think she is just scared of the noise. Your cat is probably scared of the sudden movement.
Cats like to sleep… it’s normal… and they like to sleep in different spots.
Answer by kathyk214Your cat is normal from the sounds of it. If it was narcoleptic it would fall asleep right in the middle of playing, eating, etc… not afterwards.
