Jessy: How are ballet shoes supposed to fit?
I just got new ballet shoes from discount dance supply. On the website, it had a size chart, and it said I was a size six. They are extremely tight on my feet. I can’t move my toes. It’s been a while since I’ve worn ballet shoes (I just wore jazz shoes to class), so is this how they’re supposed to fit? I’m usually a size seven or eight, so is it supposed to be tight fitting like that?

You should try to get a bigger size, Ballet shoes are supposed to fit snug but not so tight that you cant move. Only pointe shoes are supposed to fit like that!
I hope I helped and sorry if I didn’t
Answer by PumpkinBallet shoes should fit snuggly, not like street shoes. The leather will soften as you use them. You want them to feel more like part of your feet than something on your feet. I like leather better than canvas for this reason.Answer by GroovyGirl623
If your feet are done growing, you should get a shoe that feels almost too tight on your foot. After you wear them a few times, they will stretch out to fit your feet like a glove (leather or canvas will both stretch). Make sure you are wearing them on the same feet every time. You should still be able to move your toes though. If there is too much excess shoe beyond your toes, it will cause too much drag or possibly cause you to trip. They definitely should not fit like street shoes.
If there is one in your area, I recommend going to a dancewear store to get properly fit for shoes. From then on, you can order them from an online store (cheaper prices) and know it will fit correctly every time. It’s hard to tell from a size chart alone what size you should wear. I have size 7 1/2 – 8 feet. Some styles I’m a 4 1/2, some I’m a 7. Unless you want to spend a lot of money on trial and error shopping online, I would get fit.
You might also ask your teacher if your shoes fit your correctly.
Good luck, and enjoy ballet! It has always been my favorite!
