: horse !?
how does she look am i being cheated here is a personal e-mail i had with the owner
any current health problems? none I have maintained spring shots and a worming schedule
is she 100% fox trotter? yes – with papers
is she good with other horses? yes – not dominate
why are you selling her? I bought her as a brood mare and she gave me two beautiful fillies. Now I have more horses than I have time to enjoy. I will also have to sell her 5 yr old baby who is extremely gentle if you are interested.
have she ever had health problems? none. good hooves. easy keeper She does have a scar on one back leg
is she good in trailers? yes
is she easy to catch and egar to be ridden? no, she is not eager to be caught. Usually, I let her go freely into the barn/stall where she is no trouble to catch. Again, she has had limited riding and would need a gentle experienced rider to get her up to par.
why is the price to low is it due to issues regarding her One: As mentioned above, she needs riding time to get her up to par. If I had the time to ride her more she would easily sell for $ 1500 or more. Two: She is timid and nervous of strangers. She is a gentle horse and does not bite or kick, but if she gets frightened she has the flight response. I am sacrificing the price as long as she goes to a good home with good people who will love her and work with her to become the well rounded horse that I know she can be.
be honest please
please dont snatch her up i really want her that would make you mean!
we have almost bought about 6 horses then we found new ones so yeah

Actually she is priced about right in today’s market. She is a nice looking Horse. But – you can buy a well broke beginner safe Horse for this price at any auction right now. Why do people not train their Horses before selling? If you are experienced you may have found a bargain here.
that is about the right price., i bought my quarter horse mare at 1 yr for that price, and her dad is a national champion in conformation and reining, she’s a good looking horse, and the more you do with her the less flighty she will be. the owner selling her is right, she just needs time- all horses especially green ones need alot of time knownledge, and patience, so if you are a new rider or inexperienced in any way i wouldn’t suggest buying this little mare- unless you have a trainer whose willing to work with you and the horse.
if you do decide to get her it is a good price but you still need to have a vet check her out before you make any final decisions.Answer by Nick J.
She’s actually priced pretty cheap. This is a good deal that would be hard to beat. If your unsure of the horse, then have the owner to ride the horse in front of you and then you get on her and see how you like her. Hope this helps!!Answer by Bloodybluemoon
thats about a really good price now adays. her lines look good her head looks good her back looks good she has a good body and time will tell when it comes to the frighteness of a horse new things are always scary take time and she will be fine training, love, and time is what she needs if i lived in Kansas i would snatch her up.Answer by Yohanson.
If you are looking for a project type horse, you’ve got a steal with loads of potential.
If you’re looking for the beginner type trail horse, forget about it.Answer by zakiit
I am suspicious of a horse that would be useful for riding to be put to breeding and nothing else – ie not being ridden, driven, shown etc.
I think there might be some serious problem as a ridden horse – ie a back, leg or mental problem. Her pasterns seem very upright which may cause problems in the fetlocks and knees and shoulders because of jarring.
She could do with more weight on her. If she has had a foal you would expect her to be carrying far more weight. Suggest worm damage and the foal is non-existent.
The catching bit could be sorted with patience and training.
The fact that she is nervous suggests that she has not been handled much or wrongly handled and mental issues spring to mind.
And finally the price seems too low to be true! This smacks of someone who is desparate to sell. Just because someone tells you what they think you want to hear and only mentions small problems, it does not mean that the horse is genuine, or its seller.
If you want to take a chance on her, get her vetted for major problems and take your own vet, not one of the seller’s choice! The two may be in cahoots. Ask for blood tests for worm damage and general health – I would want to know why she is so thin – and whether she has really foaled recently. But to be honest, I would not touch her.
Answer by alissababy93as far as her being timid, my cousin has an albino horse, that is really scared of people for some reason. but last summer i was there for 3 days, and everyday i would go over and talk to snowball ( the horse) and i would sit there and talk and wistle and sing to him. and i would offer him my nilla waffers, or a apple. But he would only look at me and talk back. and on the last day i was playing with the baby cow, and i felt a head on my shoulder A HUGE HEAD! and it was snowball=] he let me in the corral and i sat next to him and we shared cookies! now we are best friends. i can sit on him, but he wont let me ride . He is still a bit jumpy around other people but i got him warmed up, now people can aproach him, and he will give you kisses, and loves to jump arround and play with kids. he is HUGE but gentle. just try giving her lots and lots of attentionAnswer by Stasha
Are you looking for a project? Are you experienced enough to deal with a horse that might have some behavior problems (bucking, bolting, biting, kicking)? In todays market, she’s priced just about right. She’s a good looking little horse, but the answers above have some red flags in them…
“Not eager to be caught” means she hasn’t been handled much. If he has a 5 year old “baby” of hers, she’s probably been in a field for at least 6 years with minimal handling. Meaning, she probably doesn’t lead will, probably has boundary issues (crowds your space) and may not lead well. Fairly easy to fix if you know how – if you don’t know how and don’t have help, you could be in for some big trouble.
“limited riding” could mean that she is unbroken and her only riding experience was when cousin ben jumped on her bareback that one time in 2003. Or, it could mean that she was started and developed a habit that scared someone (like rearing or bucking) so they decided to use her as a baby maker instead of a riding horse. Or, it could mean exactly what they say: they’re too lazy/busy/uninvolved to ride her. That’s why it’s important to watch them ride first (before putting your butt anywhere near her saddle). If they don’t want to, they’re probably afraid to.
Again, if you’re experienced and/or have the help of a qualified trainer, you could get a really nice mare for a good price. Honestly, this is exactly how I got all my current horses. Not a one cost over $ 650 🙂
Answer by JennYour not being cheated that’s a fair price. “Broodmare material” is code for “she’s is not broke and needs training”. At that price you should be able to afford to get her trained and have a nice mount. She looks like a nice solid horse.

Answer by HorseinmyheaDI think from the pictures she seems good but when ridden that could be a diffrent story as you said you really want her i think you should have her on a 1 week trial as you dont want to end up with a problem horse as she is quite nervous and you usually only get horses around that price that are problem horses but she seems great from the pictures just be careful!Answer by Trilogy
Um, she looks good and the price looks right.
However…..
in your other question, you are asking about saddle size for her and explaining that your riding school tacks up horses for you? It sounds like you are a beginner? This is a project horse. Not advised for a beginner or a first horse in my opinion – training a horse while you are still learning is a very bad idea. Also, don’t get a saddle until you know what will fit her – otherwise you will end up spending a lot of money on saddle that will make your horse sore.
If you feel you are ready to own, I would ask your riding school to allow you to take on more responsibility and then find a good horse that you can have fun with once you are more knowledgeable.
Answer by !SheazzayHorseyLuver! The mare is priced correctly.
The mare is priced right, registred, not too old, not too young, not too small, and not too tall. If I was the owner, I wouldnt sell her for only $ 500.
However, I would be careful of buying grey colors horses. They are at a very high risk of getting sacoid tumors and HERDA.
The owners seem very nice and honest! Her hooves are taken care of and she is fat but not neglected fat.
I’m a horse trainer and deal with horses that hate humans all the time, and I have learned a few things about non people friendly horses. First, make them associate YOU with food. Whenever you walk into the field, stand in the middle of the field with a bucket of grain. DO NOT walk up to her! Make her walk up to you! She will. Horses have a love for food more than they have a hatred towards humans. After she sticks her head in the bucket, let her take a bite, then walk away. Do not touch her, pet her, halter her, nothing. Do this for awhile until you can go into the field and she will come up to you while you are making your way to the middle of the field. This works! Trust me!
