It’s never too late, try to find a gymnastics gym, I want to do it too but I’m 20! I’m too old!
you can do it any age. its one of the most natural sports out there, and beneficial for a whole range of other sports, ven if you don’t want to compete.
For example some ballet people do it. I did it as an elite wrestler for mat awareness.
Answer by Melinda HNo you are not too old to do it. I’ve taught beginner level gymnasts who are much older than you (15 to 16 yr. olds).
And James is wrong there are gyms who let 20 year olds do it. At my gym we had an adult gymnastics class for people 18 and over. Also if he volunteers his time at a gym helping teach one or two of the classes they’ll usually let an adult fool around on the equipment (depends on the gym but from the amount of videos on youtube of teachers goofing off I’d say it’s fairly common)…but keep that hush hush we don’t want the word getting out.

Though certain parts of the training would be more difficult to learn as a teenager (many gymnasts start at 5 or 6), you should still be able to do quite a lot if you have the desire. I have a cousin who learned how to tumble at 24. The biggest detriment to gymnasts in height, however. Usually if you are taller than 5’2″ most of the apparatus used is gymanastics will be too difficult to master. Svetlana Khorkina and Dominique Moceanu both hit 5’4″ by the 2000 Olympics and only their superior skill allowed these “giants” to perform well.Answer by DevonL
For the type of gymnast you want to be, it is never too late to start. However, even though you just want to do Gymnastics for fun, it will still require a large commitment from you. Generally speaking, we tend to start at age 3 to 5, so we’re able to develop the core skills at a very young age that you’ll have to learn now.
There is also a possibility that the gym itself will not take you due to your late starting age. I know throughout the years my coach has turned people away for being too old – but we’re a Gym who sends multiple guys to Nationals, has had several on the Regional team, and most of us go on to compete in college as well. So the key for you will be in finding a coach who is willing to take the time out to train someone who is there only to have fun.
Either way, good luck to you in both the sport and finding the proper Gym. So long as you’re below 5’6 or so the sport shouldn’t be too difficult for you.Answer by hscheer
I am currently 16 and I am still in gymnastics and I started back up about two years ago so yea you can start gymnastics at 14. I mean I am still getting new skills that I never though I would be able to do.Answer by Kathleen
YES!! you can still do it?
i can’t believe ur parents would say that! if u want to go for it…go for it i’m a gymnast and i’m 13 tell your parents that there are people in the Olympics for gymnastics that are over 20!! but they don’t seem to be ashamed for doing gymnastics!
i hope this helps you!
Answer by Michael NYour parents are wrong. They probably just don’t want to pay for lessons, because it is kind of expensive, although not as much as it would be if you were in training to be a world-class gymnast.Answer by kat
I go to Gymnastics World of Ohio and Dominique Moceanu is my coach! I’m 15 and I’m 5’5″ but I still do it for fun! It really is a great sport. Although there are alot of struggles, I love to chill with my friends 4 days a week, 4 1/2 hours a time. Just follow your gut! Trust me, cheerleading will help you alot and so will your flexibility!

Answer by amddAbsolutey not, Cathy Ribgy competed at the Olympics and didnt start gymnastics (let along have cheer experience) until she was a freshman in high school. Sounds like somebody doesnt wanna pay for classes.Answer by Michelley
PSHAW!
Of course you can do gymnastics. Especially since it’s gonna just be for fun. If you’re flexible, you’d be all set.
Gymnasts’ that arent olympic/elite’s normally retire after college, or at 18 years old when they go to college. I started at 14, no flexibility, and now I am competing.
Answer by coleyou can start gym at any time!!!! but remember gymnastics is mean (the people)( the stunts) you probably wont be able to start and do any good in gymnastics if you have never done it before… if you like to fall gymnastics is for you!!! running to a stationary object( volt) getting blisters the size of a
quarter (bars) spinning in the air then landing on your
butt (floor) doing a back bend on a stick of wood (beam) then gym is for you but it is hard and an unforgiving world!!!
