I am just wondering, how long did it take you to get fast at the guitar? Like moving from string to string, fret to fret. I have been playing two months on my 12 string electric acoustic and i can attempt to go fast but sometimes i mess up. I want to be an amazing guitar player, i practice every night. I want to be in a band and need to know like what the minimal things i would need to be good at to at least join a rock band?

don’t worry about being fast right now. Worry about playing music and developing a sense of rhythm and harmony/melody. Learn some easy songs even if they are Ramones.

Start out slow. I didn’t think it would work either, but I was practicing this technique on the drums and then suddenly I could do it faster without messing up. This works the same for pretty much anything. Play it slowly on the guitar, and then go steadily faster until you reach the max speed that’s comfortable for you. Just continue to play that and next time you try, you may find that you can go faster than before!

Depends on how often you practice and if your taking lessons or learning on your own.

Just practice your ass off. 12 string is kinda hard to learn on, but if you get good at that then a 6 string should be cake. Ive been playing for a little more than a year and I played in a small band for a few months. Im not amazing (I dont think so anyway) but my friends say im good. So if you practice at least an hour a day im sure you will be doing just fine in a years time 🙂

i started playing the guitar a couple months ago, about 4 or 5. i am on 6 string, which i think is more easier than 12. your doing the right thing practicing every night. make sure you focus on what you want to speed up whether its a song, or a scale, or anything else. that’s what happened to me, i picked up a guitar and started trying to smash 5 songs in one hour. that didn’t work. i figured starting out slow would be a good thing. for about one or two weeks, i worked on this song i could never get, and now i could play the whole song without looking. hope this helps and good luck.

dude, its only been two months. i’ve been playin for over a year and i can’t play very fast. I play pretty damn good though.
