it took about 2-4 days for me to learn 1 song if its hard . but if its only took bout a few hours .
Learn G, D, and A chords and you can play thousands of songs….You will need to practice every day until you get callouses on your fingertips,,,so I guess it depends on how tough you are before you get those three chords down pat…You can play a song as soon as you can make the chords but you won’t be able to change for one chord to another fast enough to sing to it for a few weeks…maybe three weeks…Answer by jesusgirl678

You can play a song as soon as you want to. I reccomend learning some scales and chords first, but you can search tons of tabulature websites.
A tab is similar to reading music, but instead of five lines and four spaces you get a diagram from the strings on the guitar. The numbers on these lines indicate which fret (those silver bars across the neck) to play. Just read/play in order from left to right. Depending on the complexity of the song and your willingness to learn and practice, you could potentially learn a song in no time.
Good luck!
Answer by cconsaulAs soon as you learn E minor and A minor you can learn to play a few songs. Learn E major, A major and D major and you can play a bunch more. The main thing you need to do is build enough callous so it doesn’t hurt to push the strings down, and learn the chord patterns.Answer by kyle l
most of the answers so far mention learning chords and this is good but not completely necessary as most beginner books will have you learning single note songs before you move on to chords. one important aspect of learning a song is repetitive practice. the more familiar you fingers get with the movement and placement…the easier and faster you will be able to play the song. muscle memory takes time though…im no expert on how it works but Ive been playing for a while and it usually doesn’t matter how hard a chord or riff is as long as i play it over and over and over for however long it takes i should be able to learn it. however, some songs would require i play them over and over for amounts of time i am not ready to spend practicing haha. but generally speaking, practice a lot and if you want to learn any song in particular…learn the chords or map out all the notes youll be using and play it slowly over and over until your speed increases and you have it perfect.
OH! one more thing…memorizing parts of the song makes it alot easier for me…if you dont have to be constantly looking back and forth at the sheet music or at tabs it makes learning it alot easier, i find. this way you can be watching tv and during a commercial have your guitar in your lap and practice the part until your show starts or something…thus maximizing practice time.
to answer your question, depending on how long you spend practicing and depending on how easily you take to guitar (some people take longer to learn than others)…it shouldnt take more then 2-3 weeks to learn something as difficuly as say…come as you are by nirvana.
hope i didnt go off track too too much!
Answer by lt_nelson08Well it depends how much time your willing to put into it well at first when u begin to play its ganna take some time cause u have stupid fingers dont worry we all have had them so its takes about 1-3 days depending on the difficulty of the song but once u have been playing for a while like me you can learn songs in minutes! i can even learn songs by ear the important thing is not to give up on wat you love to do or wat u want to do if u want t play guitar then do it and dont give up peace!Answer by Ken L
How fast you can play songs depends on how you learn, and what background you have. Don’t be discouraged if you read “it only took me a day” or whatever. If you learn by ear, and can pick out the notes before you even know what a power chord is, you will tend to go faster at playing songs than, for example, someone who first learns a few chords, reads tab, and goes from there.
Each person has a right way for THEM, and it is the hunger and satisfaction of music that drives – not a competition with the world of musicians. Find your way, and develop what you do until you impress yourself – THEN impress others.
Have fun with it, and expect frustration for a while. Then the rush of learning and being able to perform will be that much sweeter…

if you’re trying to play band songs they may be a little harder because you have to listen to the song a few times in order to get the strokes down right. songs are pretty easy, many people use powerchords, and those are some of the easiest things to learn. go to www.ultimate-guitar.com
that place has a million tabs for guitars..i don’t know if you know tabs or not, but just look at whatever song you want, fingerpicking i think is easier to learn than strumming.Answer by Naman
it took me less than a month to start playing leads and within a couple of weeks after doing a few chords i went onto songs
