Yes, don’t give up when your fingers ache and blisters start to show.
Playing guitar can be one of the easiest instruments to learn but one of the most torturous physically. Experienced guitar players have calloused fingers after years of playing which is what is required in order to get past the pain.
Here are some resources to get you started:
https://www.musictheory.net/ is outstanding for getting anyone started in general music theory.
https://chordfind.com/ is a great site for learning chords https://www.guitarmasterclass.net is much more sophisticated but is not free.
I would recommend staring out with a few simple chords like D, G and A. Most songs can be played with what are referred to as the dominant chords (the three major chords in a major key), sub-dominant chords like Em and Bm can be added later. It is important to break your fingers in at first, along with creating the callouses I mentioned earlier. It is also important to learn the art of strumming which is more than half of the skill in playing guitar.
Start with these three chords and practice getting the feel of strumming. Play a few simple songs like “Row, Row, Row Your Boat” or “Amazing Grace” both of which can be played with these three chords. Don’t try to advance too quickly or you will be discouraged, rather master well each stage of the development and then move on the next step.
Answer by Hornet OnePlay for your own fun.
Taking up guitar involves alot of practice, and it takes some time before you can be good at it. I see one of friend gave up because he couldn’t get it right. Nobody gets it right when you just start learning it. Just keep playing and enjoy your own playing. Eventually you’ll get it right
Play your favorite song. Don’t play something you’re not familiar with. You can find the tabs online.
Finally, practice practice and more practice.

Practice,
Patience.
Better to play ten minutes every day then to cram for hours one day a week and NOT play the rest.
Have fun.
You will learn a lot of rules for music – they are ALL helpful, but the BEST rule – the one that REALLY COUNTS is “If it sounds good, it *IS* good.”
Answer by Michael GTwo tips:
1. Your fingertips will begin to hurt. However, callouses (spelling??) will develop, and pretty soon you will be able to play the instrument with no pain at all. Don’t give up!
2. Learn a few “open chords”. You can play almost any rock tune with just 3 or 4 chords.
Answer by MeredithDo you have a guitar already? I’d recommend starting out on an acoustic before moving to electric. Acoustics are harder to play, so eventually when you can play well, and it sound good on an acoustic, it’ll sound AMAZING on an electric.
I taught myself how to play about two years ago, and I’m still learning, but it’s my favorite thing to do when I get home. I’d recommend going to
https://www.ultimate-guitar.com/
and pick out your favorite band and search for a song you like.
If you don’t know how to read tabs, here’s a link with lessons.

I’d recommend buying a tuner, you can get them at Wal Mart for about 5 bucks.
Good Luck! The guy above me is right, it does hurt your fingertips at first, but take your time and push through, it only takes a couple of months for the callouses to form.
peace!
Answer by CorpseGrinderhaha guitar….take it from me…been playing guitar for bout 12 years now……guitar is a very simple instrament. But the thing that ticks Every beginner is that they want to play like their favorite artist when they dont know a note. This happend to me. I almost gave up. Sites like www.licklibrary.com are good ONLY, i said ONLY, when you got private guitar lessons and for practice you can use the sites. Dont use tabs until later on. The biggers goal is Practice. I used to practice for like 1-2 hours. I got nowhere. I shot my selfup and practiced like 3-5 hours. After 6 months of guitar i can play mostly alot of the songs i like. That is your main main goal. Now if u dont have a guitar, u should probably go get one..go figure…..If u like a acoustic guitar, then its a little cheaper because no need of amp or effcet pedals. they just make a simple sound. The strings are made of rubber and stuff like that and are farther away from the guitar neck. Now Electric guitars are another thing. U can do mostaly anything you want with them. But the budget can get high. Depends how much u got. When you start off, dont get the best best best best guitar, unless you got a very high budget and never ever gonna buy a second guitar ever agin. But if ur budget is not too high, go for a starter pack. they go from 150$ -300$ . They come with a beginner guitar, practice amp, strap, picks, and some other stuff. Dean and Jackson and B.C rich are good guitars, but those are used in metal, oh so is Ibanez. Fender, gibson, epiphone are like Jemi hendrix or led zepplin stuff. Now amps, the best ones are Marshall, Krank, Line 6. you wont need pedals until you played for like a year and so. Pedals are effect on ur guitar. There are different ones. There is disortion,wah-wah, whammy, clean tone, and ALOT more. This alter the sound of your guitar. There too much to say about guitar but the main this is to NEVER EVER GIVE UP AND PRACTICE ALOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Answer by bubbie_king
Sit down and ask yourself, “What is it I want out of the guitar?”
Once you answer this, the rest can come easily.
