Lever: What is government supposed to do to help people that live beyond their means?
I don’t understand what the government is supposed to do for people who did take out huge loans, maxed out their credit cards, took on massive student loan debts they can’t pay off, etc. If somebody keeps spending more than they make, the government can’t do anything about it. Even if government could somehow wipe out all the debt, people would still go back on debt.
If we could just teach people to not get into debt and stop buying stuff you can’t afford, it would really help people in achieving realistic goals that they can live out.

The govt screwed up by removing regulations that prevented home buyers from signing loans they clearly couldn’t pay. I bought a house in 1977 when regulations were still in control, my wife and I had to prove our combined take home pay was 4 times the house payment. Removing regulations removed that requirement.Answer by ?
