Adrian B: How hard is government contract work overseas?
I have been offered a government contracting job and will be working 12 hour days, 7 days a week in Afghanistan. How hard will it be to work 12 hours everyday? What are the living conditions like, specifically? My contract term is for 12 months with 14 days paid vacation. Anyone who has worked for KBR, WWLR, or any other overseas government contracting company please fill me in.
Anyone who has done civilian government contracting knows that the job pays really well…I just want to know if it will be worth it. I will be a counter agent at the airport.

yeah it pays well, but they don’t guarantee safety.
remember, you can’t take it with you when you pass.
I knew a guy who was a cashier at a PX in Bosnia during the conflict and made $ 140,000 in 8 months – he even took showers with his flak jacket on since he got the position because the last guy took his off because it was ‘itchy’.

It’s very hard to be government contract worker overseas although this is a high paying job but it depends on the country where you will be working, but as what you said you are going to Afghanistan, you safeness and security there has a big question the government might not assure you and to your family that you will be coming back home again.
If you have a great courage and confident, go on who knows?Answer by venki
Every job has a professional hazard attached to it. Now a days working 12 hours a day is normal. If you follow the security guidelines of your employer , you are assured of your safety. As the contract is initially only for a period of i year, please try. Opportunities rarely knock at your door. Utilize it !!.
BEST OF LUCK !!!
