It’s a competition (usually) that pits your skills and brains vs some opponent, with a substantial reward. Basically, it’s a step up from video games where you can beat somebody AND make money.

For me thought, I look at it as the only true way to make money from home.

The benefits are that if you are good at it you can make money from it. If you are really good you can take it further and become a professional gambler. There is also the fact that people find it enjoyable and it can give you a kind of rush. The opposite along with its addictiveness are the downsides.
