msdmariewhite: How do you take away a father’s parental rights in California?
I have a 9 yr old and a 7 yr old. Their father has been inconsistent and mostly uninvolved in their lives since my second pregnancy, and I have sole legal and physical custody with no court ordered visitation. I would prefer that he have no rights to my sons at all so later he can’t decide to come back and toss their lives up again. Will the court remove his rights if I believe it is in the best interest of my children? And if so, how do I begin the process?

It sounds like you already have all the rights. But I think you need to have him sign a contract that he is to give up all parental rights, etc. if you haven’t already done that.
No. He is still their father. YOU chose him.
Your children are not toys that you can play with and say who else can play with them, too, or not. Your preference is irrelevant. They have a right to see and be with their father. It’s not about you.
If you want to take court action of some kind, hire an attorney. You can find them online or in the yellow pages of your phone book.
