Desiree: Does religion do to a human brain what clipping wings does to a bird?
When you clip the flight feathers of a bird, they can’t fly. They can still flap their wings and maybe get a little off the ground, but they will tire quickly and will usually just peck around on the ground. This is exactly what happens to a human brain when religion is implanted upon it, right? A human brain has the capacity to soar to dizzying intellectual heights; to think things that no other creature in the history of this planet has been able to think. But religion hampers this ability; religion disables the human brain with mythical nonsense and silly superstition, right?

Not really. There are people who are religious and perfectly reasonable, scientifically.
Many people use religion to boost their morals and inspire them, therefore leading to more scientific discovery.
Just gotta watch out for fundamentalists.

No. Just the opposite. Isaiah 40:31
They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.

Answer by majnun99No, but a lobotomy does.
I know lots of religious people who are extremely intelligent and have advanced college degrees. I know mentally retarded people who don’t believe in God (I work in mental health). Religion, or lack of religion, has no relation to intelligence.
Answer by Kaffy’s Earl 6A few years ago i caved in to preasure from my then younger girls and alowed them to have a Furbie. Remember them?I didnt want to. I felt uneasy. But after years of being so strict with things i let my gurad down.
We had this thing for a wiele and nothing bad happened. No nocturnal sounds or fellings of a evil presence.
Then during a time of revival… There was a TBN marathone going oin that had me happy and up…. i for some reason got this toy out. I was walking down the hallway with it and i playfully was talking to it. I took it in the bathroom with me ( cant recall why) .
My daughter was getting ready to shower. Then at the same time we saw “it’ and she screamed.
It was this evil,,, ugly look i saw in this toys things eyes. It wasent anything that u could even explain after ward. It was a seanse the thing countence changed though again…. it was so fast then gone ,,, it was almost like u imagined it. If i had been the only one that exspeinced it i may have second guessed myself, but my daughetr saw it to,.( she is now grown with kids of her own)
I dumped it on the front lawn and called my paster i think t he next day who agreed i should get rid of it.
Sometimes during this i looked on it agian and found a little tag that i had not seen before. I cant recall what it said excaly but it was some kind of ryme. It was something… something psycic or fortune telling. Its been years now so i cant recall the excat words….
Anyhow as i was going up to the yard to rid myself of it i dropped it and it said ‘ Oh no”…. fitting. Yes it is part of the vocabulary given the toy when purchased but seeing i was destroying it ,, the right words came out at the rigth time.
I understand such things are cute and thankfully are not as popular… but be very leary of such things as i believe they inhabit familiar spirits.
Sometimes the toy isle in the store can b e the most dangerous place to buy from!Buyer beware!Answer by HAL 10000
My experience has been the opposite. Since I’ve been born again, all of my mental faculties have been heightened.
You are wrong again. You are evaluating religion through the lens of human reasoning. This does not work, especially with Christianity. You are obviously frustrated and struggling with some internal conflict. These are called neuroses in psychology, and could be simply defined as “an unresolved conflict”. I am not putting you down, because most people have at least one.
If you do not want help from the God of the Bible, you should seek professional help.
Answer by NJBelieverLet’s see…Martin Luther King Jr.. Was he not a visionary? Was his brain “clipped” in not only seeing a whole new, radically different future not just for African Americans, but the United States itself? Was his thinking “hindered” by his faith in God and Jesus Christ? How about George Washington? Or better yet, Isaac Newton, who wrote MORE essays and theses on THE BIBLE than he did on Science. Or how about Christopher Columbus who was inspired by THE BIBLE to explore the New World. Beethoven, Max Planck. Do I need to really go on? All Christians.
I understand that you’re trying to just take a shot at religion but this was a really, really bad example.

No, but what a fascinating nonsensical question
. A lack of faith in God causes you to spend hours upon hours campaigning against that which you do not believe in. Imagine a world where atheists can flop around endlessly or remain tethered to their computers , denying the existence of god while pretending they have time for a life off the computer.

The human brain has the capacity to soar to intellectual heights. With faith and integrity in a Loving Creator God…trust in His Word and compassion for us we are no longer blinded to this ability but can overcome many of the earthbound chains and bonds that hold us to the ground. If this were not so then faith would have been laid by the wayside many eons ago as a useless tool that assists no man though any phase in life. Many, many, many people can tell you that through faith they are more free than they ever have been without. Religion in and of itself is not useful and can be constrictive and cumbersom. The Scriptures even say as much. The laws of God are there and in place so that our own addictions, perspectives, conditions and propensities can be laid by the wayside and we are then free to become what we were intended and dream the big dreams. Even if that dream is as simple as making it through this life in such a way that pleases Him and to harm no one else but to uplift and benevolently give with the blessings that He gives us. Faith sets us free and gives us wings. Choose life. Love in Christ, ~J~Answer by Danny
No, it doesn’t. Functionally, a lobotomy would do it, but that’s not a religious thing.
But your question suggests you’ve already got a strong opinion and are just looking for support.
To stretch out your original metaphor, religion can possibly act like food to a hungry bird.
Yes, there are ample examples of religious dogma attempting to suffocate free thought and discovery. Galileo’s persecution is a classic example. Meanwhile, most people yearn for a sense of meaning and purpose in life, particularly when life has been hard, and religion may help with that. I would rather have a dozen neighbors around me who go to church than a dozen being nihilists perhaps experimenting with home-made death-ray equipment.
Aristotle’s “Greatest good for the greatest number” maxim works pretty well, and if it involves people who will treat me with respect, I don’t give a damn who or what they worship.
