pachuco: Does my credit score matter for military service?
I was told by my recruiter that in order to enter the air force special forces, I needed to have a “good credit score.” Is this correct in any kind of way, shape, or form? That once I get to sign with them, that I was able to “change” from what I originally signed for to over the special forces. Is this again accurate in any kind of way, shape, or form? It seems kind of fishy…
Furthermore, the recruiter also said that jobs are hard to find since the economy is in the drain; it looks to me that he wants me to sign right away. My options for a job only entailed two (2) choices, no where close to special forces.
So what am I to due if I really want to get into the special forces? Should I accept the deal the recruiter is offering me in signing up for x,y, or z careers? The recruiter also mention that I would be able to sign up to the special forces after I take the inicial deal he is offering me. Is this true, that mid my contract w/ the USAF I would be able to change over to special forces? What can I do? I really want to join the special forces!!

Your recruiter is right in saying credit does matter. The flip side is that plenty of people will get in with bad credit so do not believe for 1 second that you can not join because of it. Generally clearance levels is where credit would come up the most. I can not speak directly for AF special forces requirements though.
To go into something such as the air force special forces, you have to obtain a security clearance. Some security clearances might not clear if you have outstanding debt. Im really not too sure about the air force, but the army frowns on debt. and im pretty sure it carry’s over to getting security clearances and joining elite branches of the military.Answer by Mrsjvb
yes it is. you need a security Clearance and if you are at risk because of your credit you will not get one. Also the AF as a matter of course conducts credit checks on all personnel.
and just because you want SF( or even if you qualify for SF) does NOT mean they have an opening in SF for you. and they will not send you up to MEPS without having a back up because most people washout of SF training anyway.
