: Why is the discussion of sexual orientation and identity completely ignored in schools?
The majority of heterosexual people are completely ignorant. I’m 16 and luckily i’m smart enough to know how to educate myself without the help of a teacher..but I feel terrible for people who are transgendered or those who have a different sexual orientation than heterosexual, and at a young age are confused. The information that should be available to them, especially about sex is not there when it needs to be! Doing so would decrease homophobia and teach kids that heterosexuality is not the only ‘normal’ sexual orientation, and that not everyone is strictly male or female.

The teachers seem to have their hands full with the materials that will give the students the best base to becoming tomorrow’s productive citizens. To add more will take away from other important areas of study.
There are so many extra things that would be nice to teach children, but there just aren’t the resources and time available.
However, we are fortunate to live in a day and age where information is so readily available…in any subject.
