: What is the difference between Chemistry and Organic Chemistry?
I just took a intro to chemistry class and have to take organic chemistry aswell. What is the difference between these 2 classes and which is usually harder?

you learn about organic molecules and drawing lewis structures with more complex molecules. chemistry 101 is easier than organic chemistry.
Chemistry is dealing with mostly ionic compounds and chemical reactions between those compounds. It also deals with periodic trends and a lot of other conceptual information about the Periodic Table. Organic chemistry deals with the many compounds made with the element carbon; I’d have to say that in real life, 90% of chemistry deals more with organic chemistry. Organic chemistry is fairly difficult because there is a lot of memorization of specific structures of carbon and recognition of specific structures (such as ketones, aldehydes, amines, etc). In order to really do organic chemistry, you must do chemistry first to get a good basis. Organic chemistry isn’t hard if you keep at it and you really work hard at memorizing forms of carbon with hydrogen and other elements.

Answer by Gagan deepIts simple organic chemistry is a part of chemistry the rest being physical and inorganic .Answer by penne. <3
General Chemistry- which is what you will probably have to take two semesters of before organic- is a general overview of all chemistry. Nuclear, thermochemistry, kinetics, electrochemistry, determining pressure, density, solubility, etc. The list could go on for days.
Organic chemistry is all the same concepts, but with only carbon or hydrocarbon compounds, which is what all life is based on.
It really depends on the person taking the class and the teacher to what is more difficult.Answer by Joe
Chemistry is divided in two sections being Inorganic Chemistry and Organic Chemistry, Inorganic deals with those chemical that do not have an aromatic and aliphatic structure being composed mainly of C & H and deals also with elements and their properties. Organic Chemistry deals with aliphatic and aromatic compounds. It included also topics like energetics and Phase equilibria;Answer by Max
Chemistry is a very broad subject that covers many areas as well as being cross-disciplinary between biology and physics. Biochemistry, physical chemistry, materials chemistry, nanochemistry, inorganic chemistry, medicinal chemistry. The list goes on.
Organic chemistry generally deals specifically with compounds of carbon. How to make them, their reactivity and uses.
