: What is the difference between maternity bras and nursing bras?
Our lactation consultant recommended that we get a nursing bra. What is the difference between the two? Also, should she get a bigger cup size than her maternity bra?
If you’ve bought nursing bras before, is there any certain kind/brand/store you would recommend?
Thanks.

Possibly at Wal-Mart or Target, you might start there.
Unless there’s certain store like maternity wear clothing store might have some as well.
not really sure what a maternity bra is, but a nursing bra has a flap that will open to make nursing easier. you can get them at maternity stores or walmart if you wanted.Answer by D
I don’t know what a maternity bra is. A nursing bra has a flap that pulls down to allow nursing without having to remove anything, or sometimes the entire cup pulls down. It is very individual. They have to be tried on and fitted. Shop for nursing bras around 8 months, when the breasts are likely to be at a similar size to birth, and buy them with a little extra room. And make sure that you can do the hook or attachment on the flap with one hand. Some of them require two hands because they were designed by people who apparently don’t remember that you are holding a baby in one hand.Answer by Nichola
Nursing bras are bigger then maternity bras cup wise.maternity bras fit around the upper part of the belly to be comfortable and they don’t have the ajustments like the nusring bra.the nursing bra cups are big so they fit comfortable.does this make sense?I used a maternity bra for my 9months and after my son came out I used my nursing bra.then again it also depends on what comfortable for her.some women use the nuring bra thrugh everything some just use the maternity.hope I helped some.Answer by Remy
Nursing bras have clips that allow the front to open so that nursing is easier and more comfortable. As for sizing, it’s best to wait until about a week after the baby is born for her milk to come in before getting sized by a professional. If you can’t wait, I’d suggest she go to a store like Motherhood and get sized, but leave enough room to put one hand in the cup… that should allow enough room for growth.Answer by ILoveChocolate
Nursing bras make it easier for you to nurse by having a little clasp that allows access to the boob without removing the bra. Maternity bras in my opinion are a cash grab. They are meant for support to prevent sagging and to adjust as your boobs grow. Nothing that a good supportive bra can’t also do. I found that my boobs only grew so far during pregnancy. Then I bought a bigger bra. Your boobs do grow again after birth though. By then a nursing bra would be useful.
