When the open laws where set up, it was before the internet. The only ones who look at criminal records are those who want to do damage to the other person. The media likes the easy of it, employers use it to discriminate, otherwise are those who can’t keep the nose in their own business.
So why not keep records only available at the courthouse or have to pay to have the person investigated?

uh…they are public records. Since when do we need fewer facts and less information?

And EVERYTHING a county/state government puts on the net has been checked by their legal council and reviewed against privacy law

Criminal records are public records. Before the internet criminal records were released in news papers.

Only criminals are bothered by the fact that criminal proceedings are open record. Having them be open records is just good stewardship of government.

If someone doesn’t like the idea that their criminal records are available for everyone to see, then maybe they should STOP COMMITTING CRIMES.

That’s what real Americans do.

This is a very interesting question ! Are you an American ?
I´m German. Here in Germany criminal records are only available for court or police. Otherwise I have to agree to the release of my data. Some very responsable jobs ( like firefighter, police officer,.. )require that I (!!!) get an extraction of MY record for your employer. Certain university degrees like lawyer or doctor require an extraction to get the permission to work.
Look , if you have commited a crime and served time in prison, than you have balanced the guilty. After your release you should be re-intigrated into sociaty and be a usefull and tax-paing member. How should you get back on your feets if every meaningless person without special interest in your person can check you out ?
Yes , I´m surprised that in America prisoners and ex-prisoners are disfranchised. 2nd class people.
I think american soldiers kill everywhere in the world . They come home and get a medal. GREAT ! This is a honorable guy ! If he would be an ordinary guy with a felony of murder on his record people would not even rent to him their garage !
I would not want my privat life in the spot light. If I have sth to hide – ok. That´s my right ! I have a personality right !
