In California, if you get caught by the police having sex in public at night, what are the consequences? Will you get arrested? Is it true you would have to register as a sex offender?

Yes. you will be arrested and charged with indecent exposure, lewd and lascivious conduct, public indecency and be added to the Sex Offender registry for life alongside the pedophiles and rapists.
