Robert: Computer question (How long does an average person keep a computer for?
When is it time to purchase a new computer?
Some people I have talked to told me its good to purchase a new computer every 2 years however that could be expensive for most people. I always thought every 4-5 years.
What is your opinion on this?
The computer I own is 11 months old?

2-3 yrs
until you feel your ready for a new one like when it cant handle your programs very well anymore and stuff.Answer by John T
The industry “standard” answer on that question is 3 years.
Technology seems to hit a new high in about that time frame.
However, from a practical standpoint, that could get expensive; you are buying the “latest” technology.
Five years is probably more the norm and besides if you wait a bit, all of the beta bugs and glitches will be worked out and all of the updates will be in one handy “service package.”
Actually, if your computer is 10 years old, still working well, and your computing needs have not expanded, I wouldn’t upgrade at all.
If you want to use the very latest software, or play the latest games, then, of course, your needs have expanded and you’ll need to upgrade.
Hope this helps…..JT
PS—I would re-post this question in Entertainment and Music, sub category Polls and Surveys.
I think you’ll get more responses there than here. Don’t ask me why Yahoo in all their wisdom; HID Polls and Surveys under the Entertainment and Music category…go figure.
Answer by ?You can never get rid of a computer. The evil demons from the planet Zultar who live inside the screens will come and rape you or kill you if you try to remove them from your house. Computers are pure evil. They will kill you. I am sorry for you because The Lord Skulptar is going to eat your brains.Answer by Wiggy
If you feel like your computer just isnt up to scratch then you should buy a new one, or if there is a permanent problem with it. If it is still working fine and can handle most things you throw at it and there is no real pressure to get a new one, then dont, I have never bought two with less than a years gap in between, so I wouldnt advise, it but It is mostly up to you and the cost of the new one, my advice is, if youre unhappy with your current one and can afford another, get a new one, if its just out of desire, wait a bit longer, they get outdated very fast.
