Joey: Can my wife claim unemployment after her maternity is up?
I know she can’t get on maternity due to she is still employed, and can’t actively look for a job. But after the leave time is up could she file for it due to “personal related issues” or even “scheduling issues”? See that it is a fast food job and she wouldn’t be able to work nights, because that daycare only run during the day.
I work nights too.

You can’t get unemployment if you quit.
No. It is for people who lose their jobs through no fault of their own. She can work nights and you work days.Answer by rtfm
Are you incapable of caring for your own child at night for some reason?Answer by tro
she can certainly try, whether she gets it or not is another thingAnswer by Judy
If her employer lays her off after her leave, she’s probably eligible for unemployment, but not if she quits or decides not to go back. Personal issues or scheduling issues wouldn’t make her eligible. If child care at a particular daycare doesn’t work out with her job schedule, she needs to make other arrangements. If you work days maybe you can care for the baby.Answer by spalmer
No, you cannot file for unemployment for personal issues or scheduling issues. Unemployment is for people who lose their job through no fault of their own. If you both work nights, then you will have to either (a) find a daycare that is open nights, (b) one of you get a day job, or (c) one of you quit your job to be with the baby and become a one-income family.
