: What is the sex chromosome distribution in the germ cells of the two human sexes?
According to my textbook, ‘Supporting evidence for a germ cell origin for teratomas comes from karyotypic analysis of their sex chromosome content. Teratomas in the female are always XX, whereas only 50% of those in the male are XX and the remainder XY; this correlates with the sex chromosome distribution in the germ cells of the two sexes’
I was not aware that XX germ cells exist in men. How is that even possible? A mistake in the textbook maybe?

Then think of natural selection and survival of us ! There must be a 50 50 chance of either a male or female as it is vital we have both to pass of our genes into our young what use would 10% in one 90% of the other be?
Men actually determine the sex of the baby we contain the 50:50 ration in sperm we have X and Y in the gametes
Answer by SmegheadIt’s talking about something going wrong in a sperm cell. Half of sperm cells have X chromosomes and half have Y. Those are the only male cells that don’t have both X and Y. So if you have a teratoma (which is sort of a screwed up tumor) in a male that has XX, that means it must have started out as an X-bearing sperm that then replicated its chromosomes, giving an XX cell.Answer by alhrms alhrsm
