Peace: Christmas Tree “drinking” water, or evaporation?
Ok, our tree was delivered a couple hours after we ordered it so we were worried about the sap sealing off the cut. We didn’t think to ask the delivery guy to recut it and already put it up before we thought about it. However a day later it’s “drank” like 24oz of water.
I’m wondering how do you know if it’s just evaporating from the heat or if it’s actually getting the water?
LMAO thanks for the answers, especially JB, that made me laugh 😉

unless your house is extremely hot, it would not have evaporated that quickly. the tree actually does “drink” the water, like when u buy flowers, and they give you that powder mis to go in it, its to feed the flowers to keep them alive longer.
SCIENCE EXPERIMENT!!!!
this will be fun and educational.
get a pitcher, fill it with 1L of water.
then water the tree.
now get a bowl and fill that with 1L of water, set it next to the tree
wait 24 hours and see which is lower. if the tree is lower, the tree is drinking. (which is my bet) if the bowl and the tree are even, then your tree is not drinking and the water is evaporating.
Answer by Santa BabyOne thing to remember is that water cannot evaporate that quickly. Your tree is definitely drinking it. A tree, especially when it’s the freshest, sucks up insane amounts of water because it’s still considered alive. After it dies.. then it stops drinking it. You will notice that after you have had your tree a few weeks, you don’t need to fill the water anymoe.. it just sits in the tree stand. Once it’s dead, it no longer drinks. Best Wishes!
