Desiree: What do Christians do when their children eat unripe cherries they pick from the bible?
The unripe cherries are the passages in the bible that Christians overlook or have some bizarre, nonsensical excuse for disobeying them. But their children have not yet learned what happens when one eats unripe cherries. Consequently, their children read the bible, eat the unripe cherries and then they are stoning children to death, buying slaves and chasing pigs they believe are possessed by demons. What do Christians do in this situation?

Not everything in the Bible is a law to be obeyed. The Old Testament describes God’s dealings with the people of Israel before Christ came. the people needed a whole lot of laws to live by because their hearts were disinclined towards God. The law didn’t fail because they were bad laws. They failed because of people’s evil hearts. These laws of course couldn’t bring about the inward change that the people needed.
When Jesus came he dealt with sin, and all those who trust in him for this forgiveness receive a new ‘heart’ – a new center of being, emotion and desire which is inclined towards God, loves God and loves other people, hence there is no longer a need for a whole bunch of laws to obey but rather the ‘law’ of love.
