There are a lot of branches in Chemistry. I will briefly tell you about those. It should help you decide.
1. Organic Chemistry – This is the study of Carbon and its compounds (hydrocarbons, alcohols, esters, aromatic compounds etc). Typically you could be working in companies preparing organic compounds, petroleum industries, pharma companies etc.
2. Inorganic Chemistry – This typically would be the study of the other 102-103 elements.
3. Physical Chemistry – This is mathematical chemistry. All the gas laws you know and the calculations you do is part of Physical Chemistry. structure of atoms is also part of physical chemistry.
4. Analytical Chemistry – It is all about analyzing a sample of given substance. It will have all the practical part like chromatography, spectroscopy, qualitative and quantitative analysis.
5. Industrial Chemistry – It is all about using Chem to make it beneficial for the industries….like industrial solvents, adhesives, cleaners. Creating chemical compunds like detergent, shampoos, soaps etc
6. Biochemistry – It is the chemistry of life. Typically you will be learning all about protiens, chemicals in body etc etc
7. Environmental Chemistry – It is all about using Chem to benefit the environment.
8. Pharma – It is all about creating effective drugs.
If you are still unclear, do a Google search or best….grab a book of Organic, Inorganic and Physical Chem and read em. See what interests you the most.
