MeeMo432: Should “New Year” be capitalized in a sentence?
Like: May God bless you abundantly in the New Year.
Should be “new year” or “New Year”?
bigcat, that’s completely different. In the sentence I’m talking about the coming year, not the holiday.

It’s not capitalized if you were going to say something along the lines of, “What a great start to a new year.” But, when you say things referring to the New Year holiday and such, that’s when it’s capitalized.
Would you capitalize Columbus Day? Yes so New Year should be capitalized.Answer by Funkbot
When referring to the holiday, it is appropriate to capitalize both words: New Year.
When referring to it arbitrarily, capitalization is unnecessary. Example: “It’s a new year and I’ll be making a fresh start”
