LuvDylan: Can you tell me how to calculate the NYSE average?
At any one specific point in time, could you please show me EXACTLY what numbers add up to the “index” value?
There are tons of financial info on the web, but I can’t find anything that shows the EXACT caculation of the index average. Show me the numbers that add up to the daily “average”.

Most indices have some sort of weighting. The Dow Jones Ind. Av. is price-weighted. Stocks with high prices move differently to low price stocks. Other indices are weighted according to market cap. There are lots of articles on the net so I suggest you Google exactly what you want to know.
