General Fear: Can the Federal government force feed the welfare states to state governments?
Just suppose that for what ever reason, the federal government decided to push the whole welfare state to the state government. Can the Federal government do that?
If the Federal government can’t why not? If the federal government legally can how would they do it?

They could with special legislation to defund it. The problem is, the federal government is too power hungry. Currently, they can force states to pass traffic and other laws, by threatening to withhold funding. They currently mandate states continue to provide minimum welfare programs, even if the state government shuts down. They would lose that power of they failed to provide funding, which they get from the states citizens through taxes in the first place
Yes they could and did for the auto company’s and unions in all states the 1.7 trillion dollars was to help out on their issue while everyone else bit the dust. If the federal government wants to just like immigration if you do not follow their rules they will not give you tax money collected to the states because the states are not following federal law. So lets say your state receives 100 million dollars to fix roads but you have to do certain things to get the money if you don’t you don’t get it so you lose the money and the jobs they create. So in a way they force your state government to do what they want or else.Answer by George S
Apparently you were never told that’s been happening for a long time. The federal government has done many things it is constitutionally barred from doing. The states are obligated to refuse on behalf of their taxpayers but they have sold us out to federal funds allowing them to act like bigger heroes and get more votes.
If necessary states can, as constitutionally specified, call out their National Guard units and citizens with the military weapons they are specified to keep for the purpose, and reject any efforts from federal authority to force them. But it is extremely unlikely they will ever do that again. They did it in 1861 when oppressive federal tariffs were forced onto some states’ foreign trade and that did not turn out well for them. As I noted, they also have long agreed to help each other bugger all of us citizens.
