take some lessons do some camps to prepare
Only if the team is really bad.
But, here is a plan:
-take group lessons at your local club (country club with a tennis program)
-take individual lessons from a pro you get along with, at the club
-play as many tournaments, at your level, as you can
-attend camps
If you do all that you will get better quickly. But, this ain’t cheap.

It really depends on your team. My tennis team was a recent addition to our Athletics program, so there weren’t that many people and the team was composed of people who played a little, but never played seriously (like me) and people who never played before. The thing is, you have to play your way on to the team, meaning you need to beat other nonseeded players as well as seeded players (players who start on the team). The number of spots open for a team is usually limited, where the best 3 players play singles, and the next best 4 players form doubles teams. If you don’t have any idea how to play, you need to learn and fast. Good Luck.Answer by Lorraine Flake
Normally it is very difficult to make varsity without knowing how to play tennis. I made varsity my freshman year and had never played before. But before i made varsity i was on JV and had to work my way up to varsity. I had to beat other girls that were older than me. Then i made varsity, but that was only because my school didn’t have any seniors playing that year so i only had to compete with sophomores and juniors. I did know the rules and knew how to at least hit the ball. So i think you should try and play a little just to get the feel of it and then throughout the season try to get better and better.
