: Can fruit machines or slot machines actually be classified as gambling?
Its just that fruit machines and slot machines are pre-programmed so that you lose. The whole point of gambling is that you have a chance at winning something.

they are rigged so that every somethingth person wins. all things at casinos except russian roullete are set up like this too so, if those are gambling then slots are too.
fruit machines, depending on what the prizes are (some at charity functions and stuff give out fake prizes or tickets and such-this is not considered gambling), if it is in a state that allows gambling and the prize is money for money, then yes it is considered gambling and slots are always considered gambling. the slot machines aren’t preprogrammed so that you lose, they are preprogrammed to give out a certain percentage of winnings to it’s intake, yes the house always takes a cut and has an advantage, BUT it isn’t guaranteed that you lose, most are set so that you lose over a period of time 3-4 cents for every dollar (the whole 97-96% payout thing).. and yes it is the worst gamble in the casino, but when winning it is one of the best payouts, because everyone else’s dollars go into your shot at the 97 percent payout.
because the machines and the casino games in general are highly regulated they cannot program a machine or rig a machine never to payout. otherwise they could lose their livelihood, the coveted gambling license. also, I would hate to see the Russian Roulette table after someone loses.. LOL, it is only Roulette in a casino, either double 0 or single 0 roulette, but never Russian roulette, by the way if you find a single 0 roulette table (rare in America, popular in Europe) then play it, it has better odds (obviously) than double 0 roulette.

Let’s take one at a time:
Fruit machines: You DO have a chance to win something. They ARE gambling. YES, they are programmed to TAKE your money over time, but that’s what ALL gambling games are set up to do! I promise you if you play the fruit machines enough times, you WILL walk away a winner sometimes.
Gambling: As I mentioned, ANY form of gambling is preset to TAKE your money! Pick any form you can think of – roulette, blackjack, craps. You CAN win at all of them, but you will ALWAYS lose more than you win in the long run – JUST LIKE FRUIT MACHINES!
The only difference between fruit machines and slot machines and any other form of gambling, is that the fruit/slot machines are a little bit worse of a gamble than most other games. Most casino games might have a 2% to 7% “house edge”. Fruit and slot machines might have more like a 10% to 20% “house edge”.
