Hey: What happens when you breed a brother and a sister dachshund?
Hello,
I am thinking about getting a brother and sister dachshund. We will not force them to mate at all. It would just be like they can mate if they want. If the female did get pregnant, would her pups be born with deformaties or health risks?
Don’t worry, because if they will be born with health risks or anything, we will fix the brother and sister before it happens.

they will likely be born with health problems and genetic deformaties.
Get the dogs spayed and neutered. Its irresponsible anyways to just allow dogs to “breed if they want”.. that puts the female’s life in great danger.

Deformities both mental and physical WILL happen.
Would you try to mate with your sister and expect the child to be normal?Answer by Jo
It greatly increases risk of health problems, just like in humans.Answer by Anora
Whoa, really? Just fix them if you are not responsible enough to keep them seperate. Good grief!Answer by Claire
There is a 6% increase of genetic malformed puppies when you inbreed, and that is not a nice percentage. That includes everything from being born without eyes, to simply being deaf – but regardless, this is not worth it.
There are an increased risk for health concerns to not spay and neuter your pets as well, and I can assure you that a 6% chance of genetic deformities can ensure dreadful health concerns too.
Answer by Rayven-Fried Sea Kittens Anyone? There is ALWAYS a risk when closely related animals breed and when the owners/breeders have no genetics, gene inheritance and what genetic issues are a concern with the particular breed AND the dogs’ pedigree.
Get your dogs spayed and neutered BEFORE they have a chance to breed. If for no other reason the fact if someone were to tell you the pups would be fine you would leave them intact.
