I don’t know any definitive serious works on this issue. You might want to read the satire on either side as there is more than a grain of truth in a lot of it. But I can’t think of anything to suggest that would be a fair analysis as everyone has a point of view.
Read “Liberty and Tyranny” by Mark Levin.
It just came out early this year so it has up to date information on current events going on in politics. For what it’s worth, it’s been number 1 on the New York Times best seller list for 7 weeks and counting.

Bary Goldwater.. “The conscience of a conservative”…
Conservatism in a nutshell.. The best seller that solidified the movement in its time..
Murray N Rothbard… any works.
But especially “what has government done to our money” and “the case for the 100 percent gold standard”…
Libertarian viewpoints from one of the fathers of the party.
Ah, Grasshopper! Let us try to question from the other side. What is it that you believe to the most just, practical and effective politics and polices that will lead to the greatest good for the greatest number? Be objective. Compare the lives of the current American working class with the lives of the working class 50 years ago…post WW2 and pre-Reagan. What policies changed? Who was behind those changes? Can a modern first world country have both ‘social security’ AND ‘liberty and justice for all’, or must ‘social security’ be sacrificed for ‘freedom’? Ask yourself, why do people believe what they believe. Is it experience or ‘information’? Can it be both? Can ‘information’ be mere propaganda? ‘True believers’ can influence large numbers of people to follow, but believing you’re not wrong isn’t the same as being right. If you can convince people to believe absurdities, you can get them to commit atrocities. An excellent book to read is ‘The True Believer’ by Eric Hoffer. Politics don’t exist in a vacuum. Politics follow beliefs and beliefs can be manipulated by those that would swindle you for power or profit. (Trickle down economics). Other belief systems can be positive, useful and practical. (Universal Health Insurance)…..or the other way around depending on what you’ve come to ‘believe’. The question here is why do you believe what you believe? Read the book! I recommend it!
