: I got a job as a bartender/waitress, is this a good pay?
I currently live in New York and I desperately needed a job cause I plan on moving out of my parents house and renting an apartment next year (Which will be my first year in Columbia University!). I applied for a position in a bar/restaurant as a bartender/waitress and I got a call on Friday saying I would start my job on Saturday. On my first day, I made $ 235 ($ 85 in tips). I only work from 4:00-10:00pm.
Is this a good pay for an 18 year?

Waitressing is a fantastic job to earn QUICK money. Making $ 235 dollars on the first day, and in 6 hours is basically you making about $ 39 an hour. A typical fast-food is about $ 6-8 an hour. I use to waitress as well, and money came fast, despite some of the rude customers. Aside from that, you are a pretty cute girl with a friendly face, people (especially men) are bound to WANT to tip you. Me, I work as a student aid, making $ 7.25 (starting my first year at ULL!). You’re on the right track!
