It can be further than that, anywhere from there that isn’t too long of a travel on public transportation. The cheapest that I could find online was fifty dollars. Are there any ones that are around thirty? The quality of the hotel/motel is not a concern.
these are all great answers, if there is a way to get to a cheap hotel a little further away through public transportation that works out fine. Does anyone have specific hotel names?

Try the International Youth Hostel on Bank Street in downtown Philly. It shouldn’t be more than $ 28 per night, but it’ll be a bunk bed/dorm accomodation setup and not a room of your own. Check out the international hostel page by doing a Yahoo! search for international youth hostel. I stayed there once and it cost $ 15 but that was ten years ago and I thought it was a good value for the price. As for actual hotels at $ 30/night or below, I don’t know of any.

Near Temple , no . About an hour away in Langhorn on Old lincoln Highway there are several hotels with low weekly rates. also the Mall motel less than 5 minutes from the Verizon Building on the 14 bus has low rates but that is further out than the other motels mentioned.

Are u sure about this?….There are several motels in North Philly that are just about on the campous..You have to understand that Temple is enter twined with some of the worst neigborhoods in Phila…Your safety would be in jeopardy..My suggestion would be the several motels that are 10 mins driving time and about 20mins on the bus..Roosevelt Blvd has several hotels that are less than 5 miles off the Temple Campus. There are several bus routes on the Blvd that cross Broad st..there u can transfer to the C bus that travels south into temples campus…I must remind you that you will be in a high crime area..I would find a way not to stay in any motel in North Philly. The 2 that i know of are basically for hourly rentals,,u know what I mean?
