Jam Z: Anyone ever bought online plants from gardening express? or anywhere else online/mail order?
I am interested if you think the quality as good – dont they die/degrade in the post??
I saw a special offer and if it was in a gardening centre I would buy it but I am not so sure about buying over the internet/post. It is for edible plants like strawberries, potatoes and herbs.

I buy mine online from Gardening Direct, Thompson & Morgan, and they arrive safely in good condition. Have never been disappointed with the quality or the packaging.
Dunno about “Gardening Express”, but my Grandma often used to order stuff from a firm called “Bakker” before she popped her clogs.

Quality seemed perfectly fine… good as anything from B&Q or Homebase, or the local garden centre (if not maybe slightly better).
Answer by pamelaYes from them and Thompson & Morgan. Provided the plants arrive on time and you tend to them they are ok. You should be ok with the plants you are after. If not they are very good at refunding you or sending replacements. I’m a bit more cautious about shrubs as often they are very small and their flower colours don’t always match the pictures.Answer by MikeP
As long as it is a reputable vendor, then it’s okay.
Even garden centers get their plants through shipment, so I wouldn’t worry about the method of delivery.
Again, what is important is the reputation of the online seller.
Here are some comments online about gardening express:

Just do a search for their name + “review” or “complaints” and you should find some information about their service.
Keep in mind, though, that every business has its critics and those are often the only ones you find online. So, just because you found some undesirable comments doesn’t mean they are bad. It’s just something to consider.

I work in plant nursery, and the way people look for any mark and ask hundreds of questions, i would have thought anybody liking plants would want to choose their own.Answer by David
I have bought a few plants and trees from Bakker and have not had a problem The trees usually arrive in a dormant state, they look as though they are dead, but they soon pick up. They arrive in quite strong boxes and none have ever arrived damaged.Answer by Dibonski
Bought from Thompson Morgan, Dobies of Devon and Garden Bargains. All plants arrived suitably packaged and with instructions. Dobies of Devon esp good as they replace ANY problem plants one had died on the way – so they sent 4 assorted to make up for it -Free
