sphynx as they have no fur
Get a hairless cat. They are good for allergies since they have no hair.Answer by katie
hairless cats, although i am allergic to nearly all cats and my old cat (died recently) was a short hair domesticated tabby and i never sneezed a bit!
never get a long haired cat or any semi-ferrell as they can drive allergies crazy!
i hope you find one that is suitable! 🙂
Answer by Tranquil48Do you know specifically what his allergy is? Is it Fel d 1? All cats will have this in their salivary glands. There are things you can do to help this but it’s work if you’re willing to do it. If you can’t afford the extra time, don’t get one just to have to get rid of it..it’s too stressful on the cat and you’ll just end up sad about it. I suggest a Sphinx or short-haired cat.
Keep rugs and floors real clean, bathe the cat and groom it at least once a week and use a HEPA filter to filter out the allergens.Answer by Deborah
Cat dander is the cause of allergy’s. A hairless may work.Answer by liz
Its usually the cats fur that causes allergies. You can get cats with no hair at all, they are called Sphynx but they are very very expensive.
If your bro has an allergy it might be better not to have a cat at all.Answer by Michele the Louis Wain cat
Most people’s allergies to cats are triggered by a protein (Fel d1) in their saliva. When they wash themselves the saliva dries and forms a dander (dust) which becomes airborn when the cat moves around or is stroked. Since all cats wash themselves it makes no difference whether the cat is hairless or long-haired, they will still get dander.
It’s said that the Siberian cat (ironically a long-haired breed) has the lowest levels of Fel d1 in their saliva, but not enough research has yet been carried out to prove conclusively that this breed won’t trigger allergies in some people.
The best thing to do is visit cats at a rescue shelter or breeders, get your brother to spend time with a few to see if there are any that don’t cause too much of a reaction. This article has lots of information for people who are allergic to cats, but would still like one as a pet. Perhaps it has advice which could help your brother.
