Tell us from where to where. No good telling you about an airline that doesn’t fly between where you need to transport the dog.
Go on the website of the airline which flies out of your airport (Midway or O’Hare; you don’t say) and provides service to your destination in CA.
CA is a very large state with many airports, so still not enough information.
There is never a situation where no one has had trouble, because that is the nature of transporting human and canine passengers.
Many airlines, even if they do transport pets in cargo, will not take dogs in very hot or very cold weather.
Even though the dog will travel in the pressurized section of cargo, there are still some issues with temperature.
Make sure you have a non-stop flight with no connections to avoid having your dog stranded during delays.
Just as an example, you could fly United from ORD to LAX
I went to the United website, clicked on services and information and then pets.

Flying with pets need not be such a stressful thought for the travellers. With proper guidance and appropriate adherence to suitable suggestions, travelling with pets will be a hassle-free prospect for pet owners.
